Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) statistics for the June quarter 2017

PPSR searches

There were 2,244,603 searches conducted on the PPSR in the June quarter 2017. This represents a year-on-year increase of 65,728  searches (or 3.0%) compared to the June quarter 2016, when there were 2,178,875 searches on the PPSR.

The number of searches conducted on the PPSR in the June quarter 2017 rose 6.2% compared to the March quarter 2017.

PPSR registrations

There were 538,293 non-transitional registrations created on the PPSR in the June quarter 2017. The number of non-transitional registrations created fell 1.2% in the June quarter 2017 compared to the June quarter 2016, when there were 544,847 non-transitional registrations created. The number of non-transitional registrations created in the June quarter 2017 rose 10.9% compared to the March quarter 2017.  

In the June quarter 2017, there were 273,947 amendments to registrations. In the June quarter 2017, 372,608 registrations were discharged or removed from the PPSR.

Motor vehicles are the most common type of collateral class of registrations on the PPSR. At 30 June 2017, there were 4,678,383 current registrations on the PPSR with a motor vehicle collateral class. This was 49.2% of total current registrations. This proportion is down in year-on-year terms from 49.6% at 30 June 2016, and fell slightly from 49.3% at 31 March 2017.

Commercial property is the most common type of collateral. At 30 June 2017, 7,083,422 current registrations on the PPSR (or 74.5% of total current registrations) were of this collateral type.
