There were 1,297 debtors who entered a new personal insolvency in Greater Sydney in the June quarter 2017. This number fell by 10 or 0.8% from the March quarter 2017. Greater Sydney accounted for 59.1% of all new debtors in New South Wales in the June quarter 2017.

There were 38.3 new insolvent debtors per 100,000 people aged 18 years and older in Greater Sydney in the June quarter 2017. This is lower than the New South Wales average of 41.3. For the second consecutive quarter, the highest regional rate in Greater Sydney was in St Marys (85.9).

Business related personal insolvencies in Greater Sydney

There were 195 debtors who entered a new business-related personal insolvency in Greater Sydney in the June quarter 2017. This is a rise of 19 debtors or 10.8% from the previous quarter. The largest numbers of debtors entering a business-related personal insolvency in Greater Sydney in the June quarter 2017 were in:

  • Wyong (12 debtors)
  • Gosford (11 debtors)
  • Canterbury (10 debtors).

Personal insolvency activity

There were 892 debtors who entered a new personal insolvency in rest of New South Wales in the June quarter 2017. This number rose by 17 or 1.9% from the March quarter 2017. Rest of New South Wales accounted for 40.6% of all new debtors in New South Wales in the June quarter 2017.

There were 114 debtors who entered a new business-related personal insolvency in rest of New South Wales in the June quarter 2017. This is a fall of 11 debtors or 8.8% from the previous quarter. The largest numbers of debtors entering a new business-related personal insolvency in rest of New South Wales in June quarter 2017 were in:

  • Lake Macquarie - West (9 debtors)
  • Newcastle (9 debtors)
  • Goulburn - Yass (8 debtors).
